This recipe guides you to make an easy and delicious crock pot pot roast with gravy.


Ingredients

  • 34 lb chuck roast
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) dry onion soup mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 lb carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 1 lb potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cold water

Instructions

  1. Season the roast with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and sear the roast on all sides.
  3. Place the roast in the crock pot.
  4. Sprinkle onion soup mix over the roast.
  5. Pour in water.
  6. Add carrots and potatoes.
  7. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, or until the roast is tender.
  8. Remove the roast and vegetables from the crock pot.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch and cold water.
  10. Pour the cornstarch mixture into the crock pot and cook on high for 15-20 minutes, or until the gravy thickens.
  11. Serve the roast and vegetables with gravy.

Notes

  • You can add other vegetables like celery or parsnips.
  • For a thicker gravy, use more cornstarch.
  • If you don’t have onion soup mix, you can use a combination of onion powder, garlic powder, and beef bouillon.
