Description

These no-bake bars combine a crunchy pretzel base with a chewy salted caramel layer, topped with chocolate. They are quick to make and perfect for snacking or parties.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups pretzel sticks, broken into small pieces
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (milk or semi-sweet)

Instructions

  1. Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine melted butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil.
  4. Boil for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
  6. Add the broken pretzel pieces to the caramel mixture and stir until well coated.
  7. Pour the pretzel mixture into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  8. Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the pretzel layer.
  9. Let the bars sit at room temperature until the chocolate is softened, then spread it into an even layer.
  10. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until firm.
  11. Lift the bars out of the pan using the parchment paper overhang.
  12. Cut into bars and serve.

Notes

  • For extra saltiness, sprinkle a little coarse sea salt on top of the chocolate before it sets.
  • You can use any type of pretzel, but sticks work well for breaking into pieces.
  • Store bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
