- 1 pound bulk pork sausage
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 cups cubed day-old bread
- 1 cup chopped apple (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji)
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain off excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and celery to the skillet with the sausage. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, sage, thyme, rosemary, black pepper, and salt. Cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread and chopped apple.
- Add the sausage mixture to the bread mixture.
- Pour in the chicken broth, beaten eggs, and melted butter. Toss gently to combine everything.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the dressing is heated through.
Notes
- For a crispier top, you can broil for the last 1-2 minutes.
- Use a good quality day-old bread for best texture.
- Adjust herbs to your preference.
