  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 cups cubed day-old bread
  • 1 cup chopped apple (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji)
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain off excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and celery to the skillet with the sausage. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic, sage, thyme, rosemary, black pepper, and salt. Cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread and chopped apple.
  6. Add the sausage mixture to the bread mixture.
  7. Pour in the chicken broth, beaten eggs, and melted butter. Toss gently to combine everything.
  8. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  9. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the dressing is heated through.
